Titanium exhaust manifold studs are the right choice when you need to shed weight and stop corrosion from eating your fasteners. The Titansmith M8 titanium exhaust manifold stud kit uses Grade 5 Ti-6Al-4V alloy, which is roughly 45% lighter than steel. This material choice matters on exhaust manifolds where heat cycles and road salt are constant threats.
Material and Finishes
We use Ti-6Al-4V for these fasteners. The alloy contains about 6% aluminium and 4% vanadium, giving it a density of 4.43 g/cm3 compared to 7.85 g/cm3 for steel. The studs come in polished or PVD coating finishes. You can choose from colours like raw titanium, black, blue, gold, or rainbow. The colour is a surface finish, not a change in the core metal properties.
Choosing the Right Kit
Select the M8 titanium exhaust manifold stud kit based on the stud length your engine needs. Lengths of 45, 55 and 65 mm are listed as variations. A 12 pcs set of the M8 kit is listed in the parts category. For an M10 thread, see the M10 titanium exhaust manifold stud kit. Other titanium parts are in the parts category.
Installation and Care
Titanium threads can gall if run dry. Apply a copper-based or ceramic anti-seize to the threads before installation. Lubricated threads reach clamp load at lower torque than dry ones, so do not copy steel torque tables blindly. Use the vehicle or component maker's torque value as your reference. Since titanium is less stiff than steel, be careful not to overtighten. Studs in cast iron or aluminium heads see repeated heat cycles. Re-check tightness after the first heat cycles to ensure the manifold stays sealed.
Frequently asked questions
Do titanium studs rust?
Titanium does not rust and resists road salt and moisture better than steel.
Can I use these for the intake?
Yes. The M8 titanium exhaust manifold stud kit is also sold as a titanium intake kit for applications where heat and weight matter.
What is the thread pitch?
The M8 studs use a standard M8x1.25 thread pitch.
